What is CrossFit?

In our words:

CrossFit is a discipline as opposed to a fitness regime. A discipline requires practice in order to improve both physical and psychological skills required to improve performance – think of CrossFit as the “sport of fitness”! The discipline promotes mastery of three key areas: weightlifting, gymnastics and endurance activities. We are everything that a “big box” health club is not – no machines, no rows of cardio equipment, no techno music! At CrossFit Turmoil, you will become accustomed to barbells, gymnastics rings, pull up bars and friendly faces!

Moreover though, when you join CrossFit Turmoil, you become part of a community of like-minded people who share in the unparalleled experience of completing a WOD (workout of the day) together, who support each other without question and who become friends inside and outside of the gym. Think of our gym as a playground for adults and an opportunity to grow as an athlete and a person.

In the words of Greg Glassman, founder of CrossFit:

“CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations units, champion martial artist, hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide.

Our programs deliver a fitness that is by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Our specialty is not specializing. Combat, survival, many sports, and life reward this kind of fitness and, on average, punish the specialist.

The CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We’ve used our same routines for elderly individuals with heart disease and cage fighters one month out from televised bouts. we scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs.

The needs of Olympic athletes and our grandparents differ by degree not kind. Our terrorist hunters, skiers, mountain bike riders and housewives have found their best fitness from the same regimen.

Thousands of athletes worldwide have followed our workouts posted daily and distinguish themselves in combat, the streets, the ring, stadiums, gyms and homes.”
